Princess in the Pantry is kicking off out 2008 fundraising with Golf Tournament. Play for P.I.N.K. is a national golf tournament that benefits that Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Play for P.I.N.K. (Prevention, Immediate diagnosis, New technology, Knowledge) or (PFP) was started in 1990 by a group of women who were saddened when one of their friends was diagnosed with breast cancer. The frightening news galvanized them to do something for her, for themselves and for women. One of the founders suggested a golf tournament: she knew how to run one, so why not? The decision was made that all money raised must go to breast cancer research.
In 1996, due to the increased interest and the desire to reach more people, the organization decided to change the tournament format and reached out to individual country clubs throughout the tri-state area: New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. In the first year PFP held golf tournaments at six clubs in New Jersey and raised an impressive $77,000 for breast cancer research. Over the past ten years, participation has grown to more than 140 clubs in 22 states across the country. Each year, an estimated 15,000 participants – women, men and children - have enjoyed the benefits of this fundraiser. Since 1996 Play For Pink has donated 2.75 million to BCRF!
This year, Princess in the Pantry and Indian Pond Country Club in Kingston MA are joining the other country clubs that host this event in our first Annual Play for P.I.N.K. tournament. Please download our phamplet for details, pricing and signup information. We hope to see you all there.
